We're in some of the most prosperous times. Yet, our suicide rates are similar to the days of the great depression. According to the Huffington Post (via Centers for Disease Control Prevention), suicide is the second leading cause of death among college-age students and nearly one in five university students are affected with anxiety or depression. The data is clear. There's something to say in this hour about our need for good mental and emotional health. That looks different for everyone for sure. However, after we've prayed, read scripture, listened to sermons, self willed, and presented alter calls, it's then time to do the work of understanding the traumatized parts of our timelines. Also learning to understand timelines of those we love. As Paul said, "to seek mind renewal." I am not claiming to have it all figured out. On the contrary, I live daily to better understand the reconciliation between the theologian and therapist. At present, my findings are pointing me more and more to a both vs either/or.
Don't fight alone. Live and be ALIVE! Creating so much safety in our relationships that the language of vulnerability, honesty, and transparency become natural (vs isolation & numbing).
